What You Get With These Pro Parts
In pro racing, there are multiple classes with specific rulesets. These rules govern the make, size, and weight of the wheels, the axle locations, and the addition of aerodynamic modifications. To compete in Pinewood Derby League racing, builders need quality parts that meet the rules of each class. Both Street Stock and Mid America allow wheels that have been heavily modified and reduced in diameter. These classes need fenders that conform to these wheels. Pure Stock requires larger wheels with stock block wheel/axle locations. Again, this class needs fenders that are designed specifically for it. Turbo Axles designed for league racing are superior to stock axles with geometry that stabilizes the wheel, allowing for more aggressive weight distributions and therefore faster speeds. Lightweight basswood bodies allow the builder to put the weight where they want it, maximizing potential energy.

FAQ
Are these fenders legal for Scout races?
They're designed for specific pro Pinewood Derby League classes (Street Stock, Mid America, Pure Stock, Street Pro). Turbo Derby has fenders designed for non-pro races here.

How do I choose the right fender set for my class?

-
Determine what wheelbase your car has by measuring the distance between the front and rear axles. A stock Scout block is 4.375". Two other popular options are 4.75" and 5.0"
-
Determine the diameter of the wheels you will be using; these usually vary between 1.10" and 1.18", with a stock Scout wheel measuring approximately 1.184"

What makes Turbo Axles different from stock axles?
These Pinewood Derby League-ready axles are precision-machined from high-quality stainless steel. They are perfectly straight with optimized axle journals and a beveled head. They are larger in diameter than stock (from the kit) axles, providing increased stability, allowing more aggressive weight distribution, and enabling higher speeds.

I'm new to league racing, but have some experience with youth races - how should I start?
The key to Pinewood Derby league performance is the same as it is in youth racing. Proper weight distribution and wheel and axle preparation are where the majority of the speed lies.

The International Pinewood Derby Association (IPDA) has an amateur class with a simplified ruleset perfect for new racers. IPDA runs 6-8 races per year with a point system and a Championship at the end of the season. There are trophies and prize money for winners. There are multiple classes with different rules. The racer can enter as many cars as they choose into whatever category they choose. The racer builds their car(s) and mails them to the race location; the race is streamed live on YouTube. The cars are returned to the racer for any necessary adjustments to improve for the next race. The same car can be raced multiple times, even over multiple seasons; building a new car for each race is not required. Experienced racers are always happy to help a new racer improve!
