Built for a Pinewood Derby Long Wheelbase

These bodies are cut from actual BSA blocks, making them legal in practically every Pinewood Derby race! Coming in at approximately .26" thick, these bodies slice through the air, maximizing speed with a low aerodynamic profile, also known as "thin to win."

A Pinewood Derby long wheelbase gives builders another option when planning their car setup. With this cut-through body, you get the extended configuration, low-profile design, and reduced wood weight already built in. From there, you can focus on weight placement, balance, and the finishing details.

Additionally, with over 87% of the wood weight removed from the block, the racer can optimize their weight placement, increasing speed! With large weight pockets, the racer can maximize the car's potential energy and fine-tune the balance using tungsten weights (available here on Turbo Derby).

With these long wheelbase Pinewood Derby bodies, the racer must provide a cover or top to the car. Professional league racers like to use 1/64" plywood for this purpose. 1/64" plywood is offered as an optional add-on to the body; see below.

Choose Your Extended Pinewood Derby Wheelbase

Every build is a little different. That’s why Turbo Derby offers multiple wheelbase lengths. Whether you’re choosing your first Pinewood Derby long wheelbase or refining a more competitive build, you can choose the option that best fits your setup.

Our Pinewood Derby long wheelbases come in two options:

1) 4.75-inch Wheelbase

2) 5-inch Wheelbase

PLEASE NOTE: The weight pockets are approximately .26" deep and designed for weights of that thickness or less. Additionally, the Pinewood Derby car bodies arrive flat, with the same thickness along their length. To maximize the car's speed, racers should shape/sand the nose to a point. If desired, Turbo Derby can do this for you as an option (see below).

Finish the Body Your Way

Because this is a cut-through design, you’ll also need to add a top to complete your Pinewood Derby extended wheelbase into your build. Turbo Derby offers a 1/64” plywood sheet as an optional add-on, or you can provide your own cover.
