Wheels prepared by the Pinewood Derby National Champion
These are race-ready wheels, selected, graded, balanced, and prepped by current professional league Pinewood Derby National Champion Dan Inman (DWS Racing). Starting with a thorough, rigorous multi-point selection, grading, and truing process, only the cream of the crop makes the cut. They are graded on a scale from 1.0 to 5.0, with 5.0 being a near-flawless, championship-quality wheel. Those wheels were meticulously balanced, polished, and sealed by Dan using his multi-national title-winning wheel preparation process.
The wheels have the following specifications/features (please check your rules to ensure your race will allow them):
- Diameters averaging between 1.165 and 1.170 inches
- Weights averaging between 2.30 and 2.375 grams
- Bore sizes ranging from 0.0965 to 0.0975 inches
- Average widths (from outer sidewall to inner tread edge) of .40 inches
- Outer hub double step removed
- Coned inner and outer hubs
- Fluting (tread bumps) around the outer tread edge removed
- Inner tread edge flattened
- Practically no measurable radial or lateral runout
- All wheels have ID and grade markings on inside of wheel and, in some instances, removal or addition of material for weighting/balancing purposes (see photo)
- Sets are not mold-matched
- No additional polishing or sealing needed (and is highly discouraged)
These wheels are specifically designed for rail riding setups where only three wheels contact the track. As a result, they are packaged as a set of three (3) along with a fourth stock (unprepped) wheel used as the raised/lifted wheel.
Please note that the supplies for these wheels are extremely limited. Pricing as follows:
- Grade 5.0 = $90
- Grade 4.9 = $85
- Grade 4.8 = $80
- Grade 4.7 = $75
- Grade 4.6 = $70
- Grade 4.5 = $65
